Doors with sidelites are a pre-hung type door as seen above but can include either one or two connected window units to the left and/or right side and sometimes have a long horizontal window across the top which is called a transom. These can sometimes be an option for people who prefer not to have side by side double french doors.

Most sliding patio door units nowadays have dual pane glass with a spacer between the panes in order to give the door more energy efficiency. The glass is available with a Low Emissivity (Low-E) coating which is clear yet very effective in reflecting the sun’s radiation, keeping your home cooler in the summer. The space between the glass can also be filled with argon gas which is denser than air, which improves the efficiency of the thermal insulation which helps keep the glass closer to room temperature. Storm doors are basically screen doors but with weatherstripping around the edges which is effective at keeping the bugs from getting in. They usually have a window and screen you can open to let some fresh air in as well as a locking handle that is more secure than a standard screen door. They come standard with a hydraulic automatic door closer. I have done thousands of these. I am your storm door man.

Security doors are doors that use the same type of  door knob and dead bolt that are used on your front and back entry doors. Their main purpose is to protect against burglary and home invasion while at the same time functioning similar to a standard screen door. They are installed using 4 inch long one-way tamper resistant screws. These must be driven in using a special tool but once in, they cannot easily be backed back out.

The solid-core doors generally have 1 inch of solid wood around the edge with a composite core and a veneer. The hollow core doors are just that- hollow inside with solid wood around the edge and a veneer.
